Secrets of Display URL - Valuable Tips on PPC Ad Copywriting
Secret One
Many, if not most your competitors ignore the usage of Display URL
According to study, more than 80% advertisers only put their top level domain in Display URL field. Like Example.com, or www.Example.com.
Secret Two
Your Display URL can be an non-exist URL
Example:
Kendigital.com/Sony
Compassor.com/MP3Palyer
So, you can put keywords you desire into URL, they will appear bold if they match search terms, and make your ad stands out
Secret Three
The shorter domain you have, the more room you have to play around with Display URL
Since Display URL have same 35-character space limit as Ad Text Line 1 & 2, the longer domain you have, the shorter space you left for extra keywords.
Example:
EverythingOfficeFurniture.com leaves almost no room for any extra keywords
Furniture.com can still has 22 characters for keywords
Secret Four
“www.” is unnecessary!
Example:
Use KenDigital.com, instead of www.KenDigital.com, so you will save 4 character’s space for keywords! It’s also easier to remember and better for branding.
Secret Five
“-” and “_” is unnecessary to separate keywords!
Search Engines will automatically detect and recognize keywords from adjacent characters, so it’s unnecessary to put “-” and “_” and separate the keywords, so, save the “-” and “_” and reserve the valuable space for keywords!
Example:
Handbags.com/Gucci_Bags “_” is unnecessary
you can put Handbags.com/GucciHandbags instead
Secret Six
You can put trademark terms in Display URL, even it’s abandoned in Ad Title & Ad Text Line!
This is a VERY useful tip if you are dealing a lot with famous brands. Putting misspelled banned Trademarks in Ad Title/Text will endanger your PPC account for suspension by Search Engine legal team, however, putting them in Display URL is totally fine!
Example: Handbags.com/GucciBags is totally allowed!
